The hunter is pulling up what is a seal through a breathing hole. Instead, the hunter has Sedna on his line. The sculpture shows struggle between the two, one pulling, the other pushing. It also represents the idea that the old culture and the new in many ways do not easily co-exist. The old beliefs no longer have meaning to many modern Inuit. There is a separation, like the barrier of ice, between the old and the new culture.
